I shared Sunday how the Bible talks about how the Lord leads me beside still waters and restores my soul. Back in those days, they didn’t have mirrors, so people would look down at a river bank, or at some sort of pond, or place with still waters, to see their true reflection.
It’s very difficult to get a true reflection of who you are when your life is in the middle of a storm. When you’re in a storm, the foundation seems like it’s shaking, and circumstances sometimes seem out of control. The waters seem so choppy that there’s too many waves and ripples to see a true reflection of yourself, so many times we allow the circumstances of the storm to convince us our identity, our future is somehow found and defined more in the defeat or trials of the storm than the picture God’s created for our life.
That’s why God says that instead of looking at the waters of your life’s circumstances to remind yourself of who you really are, He says if you run to Him, He’ll lay you down behind still waters. Why still waters? To restore you, to even chasten you sometimes, correct you, but also to flow new streams into you, and to give you a reminder, a reflection from HIM of who you are.
One of the greatest things you can do when you’re going through a storm is to close your eyes to the storm around you for answers to who you are, and look to God to show you a new picture of who you are, a reflection of who He says you are, in a still water He has for you.

I preached a message on this very subject about a month ago!
Never lose your identity! Peter lost it as soon as Jesus called him ROCK!
You never know how good of a CHRISTIAN you are until you are SQUEEZED. Hang on to you identity and you’ll always RESPOND like CHRIST!
I
Still waters refers to the fact that sheep would not drink from flowing water therefore the Holy Spirit is refering to the Lord taking us to a place where we may drink freely of his living water.
I’ve also heard a revelation of the still waters representing stagnant waters. They had to lead the sheep past the stagnant to the flowing pure water. I love how the Lord gave you that as well. And I love you and your family.
